If I format the stick ext3 (via SSH), then I won't be able to simply
plug the stick into my Mac to add new music files.

*I'm trying to format the stick with 2 partitions in linux with parted*,
and while this is successful, I can't get the stick to be read by my
Mac.

I took a look at what you did with pCP, as I can read the fat16
partition on my Mac, but when I try to do the same on my stick it
doesn't work.

Here's what I tried:

(parted) mkpart primary fat16 1 4000
(parted) mkpart primary ext4 4000 8000

(parted) print

Model: PNY USB 2.0 FD (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 8167MB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: msdos
Disk Flags:

Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
1 1049kB 4000MB 3999MB primary fat16 lba
2 4000MB 8000MB 3999MB primary ext4 lba

Looks like what you have in pCP (screenshot below), but what am I
missing?
