I have finally taken the full step and moved all my music (approx. 30000 songs in FLAC format, formerly stored on a very old, outdated and insecure NAS server) to a separately powered 2Tb USB HDD which is now attached to an RPi3 running pCP 3.22 with LMS. It works great, the LMS updated the database in 30 minutes, and I have experienced no problems during the first week of operation. However, I am worried about mechanical wear to the HDD because it is not spinning down when I am listening to radio (which I do most of the time). Does anyone have experiences installing a program or an extension on the pCP that will spin down the USB HDD when idle for say x minutes? And are there generic programs for that at all? Hope you will refer me to another post if this has been asked before.
