If you are running LMS it would need to be open vpn server I think. 
Using OpenVPN in client mode is only really suitable for a remote player
connecting inward to an LMS server behind a OpenVPN server.
It takes a bit of cpu and network bandwidth to run any vpn server so
imho a router with OpenVPN server on board is a better option. The Pi
LAN is really itÂ’s least stable component which imho is why it chokes
when there are too many synchronised clients. The LAN (100mbps) shares
the same bus as the USB ports.
