https://www.picoreplayer.org/how_to_install_lms.shtml suggested 300MB so I thought it couldn't be that much bigger than that. Plus I guessed that if I expanded the filsystem to fill the card then it might not be usable for anything else. Though as it's the start of my experience of PCP, RPi etc. I don't know what that else could be. But I do know in general it's harder to shrink filesystems than expand them! ;-)
