So as a trial I swapped my router around and also shuffled my several usb WiFi dongles and the problem has gone away. I dont know what it is and Im not fussy about finding out. I reboot all the Pis and router around 4am just to refresh the connections no as Pi WiFi used to be a bit flakey (maybe still is) and I notice that the first response to a browser from the piCorePlayer after reboot is lethargic but I can live with that.
