I worked myself through the 'man of wpa_supplicant.conf'
(https://w1.fi/cgit/hostap/plain/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf).
The options I found most promising were:

Unfortunately they didn't help in reestablishing a lost connection.
