Yes, the SmartPi case is very useful together with the light sensor. :) With your case, you should check if the light sensor must point to the same direction as the display or if it can point to another direction. For example, if the sensor is placed on the back of the case and it points to the other direction than the display, then the sensor will not detect correctly the sunlight that shines directly on your display.
