The main reason I do not go for full capacity is (was) to make it easier to copy partitions between SD cards to make backups. I had found in the past that 2 different 4GB cards had a different amount of real capacity and I could not copy the bigger 4GB to the smaller 4GB.
Turned out to be a short term annoyance for me as I stopped making card to card backups and I stead store relevant stuff on LAN instead.
