You indicated that you downloaded the i386 pulse version of squeezeplay. If you installed i386 on a x86_64 linux system that would cause that error.
You can check by running *uname -m* and if the command returns *x86_64* then you need to download the 'x86_64 version of squeezeplay' (https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmsclients/files/squeezeplay/linux/squeezeplay-pulse-7.8.0-1247-x86_64.tgz/download). I recommend installing squeezeplay in /opt/squeezeplay as described 'at the bottom of the download page' (https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmsclients/files/squeezeplay/linux/).
