Well you can install LMS on most linux or BSD systems.

I think it's quite easy on debian-based systems because there is a deb
package you can download. So it's one line to type in the terminal to
install.
I have seen quite a few blog/forum posts relating to install on FreeBSD
- typically within a jail for isolation. But that requires some skills.

These days, many people use docker and there are containers available
with LMS. Again, this requires a bit of knowledge.

It also depends on what is your planned use of the Optiplex machine.
That could be a server/NAS,  a desktop computer or a multimedia machine
connected to a home-cinema etc. Depending on what you want, there will
be different options... you need to provide a few more details about
your intended setup.
