Are you guys using the Card Control screen?
33271 The [Save] button does the backup and sets ALSAlevelout="Custom" so the saved volume is restored after a reboot. Has this process broken? I haven't used it for many years. The only time is used it was after shairport-sync had changed the ALSA volume. I am not sure why the default value of 0dB needs to be changed? Are you guys using your Topping E30 in DAC or PRE mode?
