Now, the real question was: is that feature still meaningful or is it a
reminiscence from the past when mp3 was the only option. I think there
is still some issues with gaps and MP3 codecs, but I’ve never
investigated that part.

I'm wondering whether this is something SliMP3 and/or SB1 needed. Would recent players or Squeezelite work without those files? I'd rather disable this for recent players than add new files.
