Por si sirve: En otros servidores me ha ido mal con carpetas de usuario con PHP y nginx. Apache lo hace mucho mejor (creo que es el único sentido en el que Apache es mejor que nginx)....
Lo que terminé haciendo fué poner a nginx como "front end" y si el request era para una carpeta de php, hacia proxy a Apache que estaba en la misma máquina, en otro puerto. Tal vez para el caso de unloquer es mas sencillo un apache + php + carpetas multiusuario??
