I have a Yamaha 2100S (SCSI) that boots fine. Sometimes my IDE bus takes precedence, but it has been very reliable in the past. I rely on this drive when my computer goes down.
I am not sure what you want "bootable" to mean. There is bootable from the startup disk control panel, and there is bootable from holding down the "c" key or equiv on startup. You can generally do the former almost all the time but the latter doesn't always seem to work (from reading the database on xlr8yourmac). I have had luck with both of these boot procedures almost 100% of the time. I think that the 2100S is the fastest SCSI drive available. There are IDE drives w/SCSI bridges, but they tend to be more expensive. I don't know if they'll make SCSI RW's anymore. :( -Charles > Watching the reports on the xlr8yourmac site on the performance of CDRW > drives I don't think I've yet seen someone say that any INTERNAL SCSI > non-Apple drives are bootable?
