Not true. The advantage of AGP is that it can run much faster than PCI...
For example, an AGP1x slot runs at 66MHz instead of PCI's slower 33MHz
(Unless you have an Apple with a 66MHz PCI slot...)

AGP also allows the card to capture some of the system memory as additional
texture memory. AGP doesn't directly influence CPU load vs. PCI, just look
at Voodoo-based cards. They come in PCI or AGP, but don't take advantage of
the AGP memory specs. A computer using an AGP Voodoo will perform
~identically to a PCI Voodoo.

Technically speaking, even the drivers can be interchangable. Apple will
have to go out of their way to make QE incompatible with PCI video cards,
which I doubt because it would cut support for ALL G3 machines... The first
lowend G4 also (Yikes?)
