It worked fine with the fast internal bus with public beta and again with OS 10.1. Does the 8500 have a plug for the external bus on the motherboard? On mine it's right next to the external plug on the inside of machine. So I'd just move the SCSI ribbon to the other bus. This might fix things without removing the G3 etc which you could try if it doesn't.
