You have your facts a little muddled here I think. OS X has always 
supported ATi Rage 128, Radeon, and GeForce chipsets in accelerated 
mode. 10.1.5 added 2D and Quicktime acceleration for ATi Rage Pro 
chipsets used in the ATi Exclaim 3D and the Beige G3s and older 
iBooks. I can tell you now my iBook 300MHz is a totally usable and 
very quick OS X platform since 10.1.5, give the ATi Exclaim a shot, 
you'll be surprised, if it is a Rage Pro based card.
