Okay, a whole slew of questions. My "speaker setup" is the internal speaker (the less the better, right?). For testing, I also have a pair of analog speakers and headphones. All three sound output sources work in Mac OS 9.
For testing purposes, I have zapped the PRAM, gone into OS9, set the volume to the maximum and restarted into OSX. The startup chime is heard (very strong indeed) and OSX boots. But no sound. Nada. Oh, and an interesting tidbit: Regardless of the sound setting in OS9, the startup chime after a restart from OSX (ie I boot into OSX then Apple-> Restart) is ALWAYS maximum. But no sound output when booted in OSX. Vladimir Katardjiev - Try out Terminus!
