OS 9 loads the drivers for hard drives off of a special partition at 
the beginning of the disk. OS X does not use these, so you can use a 
drive in OS X that cannot be used in OS 9. I don't see how your disk 
can be usable, let alone bootable in OS 9 if it does not have a 
driver partition.
