Well Jaguar seems to be a big step forward. Easier and quicker to
install and runs well I'm happy to say on our Old World Macs. Thanks to
Ryan and his XPF. L2 cache config. is a fine app and works well.
However a few machines have L2 Motherboard cache that is not
removable. Umax S900/J700 and Apple 8600 and 9600 non Kansas
motherboards . Ryans software can't disable this and he has said he
hasn't been able to find how to do it. This means that while the
backside L2 cache is turned on the motherboard cache is running as L3
cache which slows things down. I had just found that the powerlogix 1.2
software takes care of this in 10.1 and also shows cpu temp like most
cache apps do in os 9.x. Disabling the motherboard cache gives my Umax
clone a surprising speed boast! But the Powerlogix software requires
using the Terminal to install. The Terminal either doesn't start up or
crashes soon after in OSX 10.2 any ideas why? I saw someone else post
that The Terminal app is flaky in Jaguar so doesn't seem to just be me.
thanks Will S
