I guess the answer is it depends. I've got an LG 24x10x40 CDRW on a PM7500 that works with disk burner. On the other hand, it's connected through a Sonnet (Acard) ATA66 adapter, which does not officially support ATAPI drives. As the saying goes, YMMV.
