hello, everyone a brief intor & finally a question
While I do not presently own a fully unsupported machine, this group was
joined to learn about the insides of OS X. Also,
in addition to possibly restoring an older mac, in light of Apple's use
of open firmware and ROM files, I have been wondering about the
possibility of building a custom machine direct from 3rd party suppliers
& "generic" components.
As you may know apple decided to drop openGL support for the Rage Pro
chipsets. This also includes the earlier iMacs, one of which I own
(333Mhz rev D.?)
In searching throughout the net a patch for the lombard powerbook was
found (RageLTPro). All it does is change a single line in the file
Info.plist within the ATIRagePro.kext "file"
{/System/Library/Extensions/ATIRagePro.kext/Contents/Info.plist}
from this
<string>0x47491002 0x47501002 0x4c4e1002</string>
to this
<string>0x4c491002 0x47491002 0x47501002 0x4c4e1002</string>
Apparently this is at a cost to changing the screen depth with out
restarting, but openGL will work with that hardware.
Now, to get openGL to work on the iMac 333 (apple system profiler called
the chip set Rage Pro C with 6MB)
First question has any one made this hack for the iMac 333?
What are these hexidecimal numbers with in the string elements?
addresses for the ATI ROM??, or something else?
also, does someone by chance have the system 10.0.0-10.0.4 version of
ATIRagePro.kext & also ATIRageProGA.plugin (if it existed for 10.0)? I
have heard that openGL worked on the iMac 333 with
10.0.4 & considering none of the updates has this bundle, it is the same
found in 10.0.0 It would be interesting to compare and possibly enable
full openGL again.
That is quite a few questions, but any help would be appreciated
