I don't think SCSI or IDE (ATA) matters if the connection/drives are fast enough. Are the SCSI drives chained to the internal SCSI or a card? If they are on a separate card then you should be more than fine. I use journaling on my 7300/450MHz G4/ATA 66 with approx. 10% (3k/sec) slowdown. The best way is to benchmark the drive before and after turning on journaling.
