We've tried to avoid OS-specific lists. We have a System 6 list because
their previous host stopped running it. We have this list because
XPostFacto supports PowerBooks, PCI Power Macs, and many of the clones.
This list provides one place to bring everyone together -- along with the
few using Sonnet's software.

Born Again and other methods of hacking OS 8.1 to run on 68030 hardware
would be fully within the purview of the Vintage Macs email list. There
really are no issues running Mac OS 8.0 and later "unsupported" on any of
the clones as far as I can tell from the SuperMac, StarMax, and Power
Computing lists. The biggest problem there tends to be non-Apple drivers
on the hard drives; the solution is to reformat using Apple's drivers or
ante up for a new version of FWB, etc.

The only reason to install 9.2 or later on non-G3 models is so you can
work with Mac OS X. Since these machines are also unsupported for X, this
would really be the best place to deal with OS 9.2.x issues on
unsupported hardware. Since the FAQ specifically states this list is for
"anything relating to setting up and using OSX on unsupported hardware,"
I think we're covered.

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build
bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to
produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.
