Although I don't think it would slow it down that much, where do you have the 'throttle' setting in XPF set at? 8 is fairly normal. Also, go over the HD in question with a fine tooth comb. I had this problem once and somehow the harddrive had crashed and basically corrupted the disk driver. It would take my machine 4 hours to boot into 9.1!
