Not sure, but I believe this was a known problem with OS X 10.1 and below, I 
believe 10.1.5 fixes it, check apple's website to be sure.  XPostFacto's web 
site mentions it too, and has some way of creating or modifying a file (I 
believe .AppleSetupComplete or something) from OS 9 so that the setup screen 
does not appear, and it just boots into OS X.  Also, if you have another 
monitor (or a PC monitor), you may be able to get it to start in 800x600, 
which would probably make the problem go away.
