You don't have to do anything for it to recognize it as Classic. Just 
have a working OS9 system folder. I had a problem with it not 
recognizing my OS9 install, I had to re-bless the system folder by 
moving the finder out of the OS9 folder and then moving it back in. I 
did this while in OSX. Then I restarted the System Preferences app and 
selected it as my Classic install from there.
