Note that emacs has a EDT mode, as well as the program 'ed' (there is an 
'ed' editor already installed in OS X, though I don't know if it's the 
same, and C code for the Ed editor is avilable 
at:<http://vms.process.com/scripts/fileserv/fileserv.com?ED>)

Emacs also comes with OSX...
