I have read the XPostFacto documentation. It is thin, especially where this particular problem is concerned. Most info there is related to processor upgrade cards... which I don't have.
Yes, the 2 GB is the target drive. No, it is not partitioned. I was just trying to see if OSX would install before I got into stuff like that. I was going to install X on the same partition as OS 9, just to see if everything would work. I had 1.2 GB free space available before I started the install, and right after I got the "Can't write file" error message, I "Option Key" booted into OS 9 to see what could be wrong, and it said there was over 350 MB of free space left. When I did the X install, I deselected all of the unneccessary language packs, along with the extra print drivers. All that was selected was the OS X core stuff, and the BSD command-line tools. The installer said that there was enought space on the drive to do the install, heck, otherwise the installer would have refused to go ahead. Also, yes... the 2 gig is the only drive in the machine.
I did notice something odd, though. I ran Disk First Aid on the OS X CD, and it said that there was something wrong with my drive. I did the same thing with the OS 9.1 CD, and it said things were fine. The format is HFS+, formatted with the Drive Setup utility on the OS 9.1 CD.
I'm a little stumped on this. I'd hate to move all of my RAM around and slow down the Mac if it isn't necessary, and I'd hate to reformat the hard drive and have to reinstall everything if I don't have to.
Help??
Michael, Phillip again, I would de-interleave your ram, run XPF in "Verbose Mode" to "see"
the install process (more clues), also "throttle down" (XPF file menu) any attempt. and
remove anything in your PCI slots thats not useful. Is that cdrom in that "Montana"
a SCSI, check termination. I installed to a 2 gig also and it worked but a Umax S900
The LEM has been quiet weekends, others will post and give you a hand. Good Luck.
