Try connecting your main (favorite) monitor to the 7000 card and make sure it gets 
assigned No.1 in
the monitors control panel. If you are using a second monitor, it will auto assign 
itself No. 2
whether it's on another card or on the built in monitor port. If you are running just 
one monitor,
(the Radeon 7000 card), make sure that there are no adapters hanging off the extra 
ports. 
My screen goes thru at least 4 redraws at startup which includes the grey screen twice 
with my
desktop screen in between and the final screen. This may be of little or no help in 
your situation
