I really don't want to spend the bucks only to find out that it won't work at all...or that the PCI bus on those machines won't hack the transfer rate, and so the DVD playback is full of glitches!
I don't know the answer to your question and it's a good one to which I would also like the answer.
However, I will note that the PCI bus bandwidth should not be an issue, unless the OSX method of playback creates a lot of needless traffic. DVD playback in my Old World machines using an ATA card (VST/66), ATA DVD player (Acer 16X), and a Wired4DVD PCI card is great. Unfortunately, the Wired4DVD card doesn't have OSX drivers as far as I know.
This is particularly frustrating because I think I have figure out how to convert a Real Magic Hollywood Plus card for PCs into a Wired4DVD.
I wonder how hard it would be to Carbonize (is that the right term?) DVD Station. I guess one would need the source code, huh?
