Hi all,

I've installed 10.3 with XPF 3.0a10 on a Beige G3/500 with no
problems. I tried the same on a 7600 G3/400 and G4/400 (same
chassis) and it waits a bit (no video) and then starts up in OS 9.1
again. I successfully installed 10.2 on the same setup with XPF
2.2.5 (but not 3.0a10) and it's running 10.2.8 now.

PowerMac 7600/132
G3/400 ZIF on an XLR8 Carrier Card, or:
G4/400 Sonnet card (dedicated, no ZIF)
256 MB RAM interleaved (during install; I have 512MB running fine now)
PCI Rage128 for video
Seagate Barracuda 9.1GB on MBoard Fast SCSI
everything else is original

I have the internal 9.1GB SCSI HD partitioned 7.9GB (OS X) and ~600MB
(OS 9). Yes, I know that the "8GB limitation" is only for IDE but I
like a separate OS 9.1 space so I can break that glass in case of
emergency.

I throttled the processor in XPF 3.0a10, disabled & enabled the L2
cache, used Verbose mode, used old video driver override option.
Still nothing. On restart to install, monitor goes to detection mode
(green & amber LEDs on) but goes back to amber only (sleep) in a few
seconds and then pops on to green (on) when OS 9.1 starts back up
again.

Remember that XPF 2.2.5 installed 10.2 just fine, it's just 10.3 with
XPF 3.0a10 which isn't working and it has worked for me in the past
with a similar install in a Beige G3 desktop with very similar
hardware (R128, RAM size, MBoard HD connection (IDE, though)).

Those who have 10.3.x on their 7300-9600s, how did you get it to work? TIA!

- Tom
