I got an HP G85 all in one printer which im trying to put on an HP Jetdirect 300x print server which runs on 10baseT Ethernet.
Im having troubles talking to this printer both in OS9 and OS10.2.8 (xpf 2.2.5)
I had emailed HP tech service (before you buy) and they said this setup is possible for Mac OS. They said i did not need any additional software to configure this server.
Ive tried the LPD Print Config which is on the web for this print server, but OS9 says it uses additional software(HP LaserJet utility)! and i cant get it to work under OSX using the printer utility.
1) Any of you have this setup (or similar) working through ethernet? in either OS9 or OSX? any tips/hints to make this work?
We have a HP LaserJet 4mv with jet driect card in it (it's in fact faulty and wont hold static IP addresses amongst other things) but it works fine for Mac OS9 (on three different macs) OS 10.3.3 on B&W G3, P3 Win 98 and P2 Win 98 boxes.
Just make sure Appletalk is enabled on both printer and Mac and then print via that. I've just had a quick look on HP site (in fact Google search with youyr description pasted and first hit was where I went) and this should be found under EtherTlak menu.
There are also some manuals, FAQs etc which should help.
Hope that helps
