Its also possible that your 3400c does not want to encourage extreme thrift: everyone knows that OSX10.1 was a true gaff and should never have been released as anything other than freeware. Your 3400c deserves better.
If you can't get Jaguar OSX v10.2 or better don't bother with OSX at all. Seriously.
