I got a crash during startup, apple replaced with the universal "don't"

tips?
Are you using a PCI SCSI Card or the onboard SCSI?
Onboard SCSI. I should have pointed out that I am trying to re-install and
haven't been able to get past the blue screen, sometimes getting the
preparing files, but no further since the crash.
I have suffered the described symptoms on a 9600 but only when I was using a PCI U2W SCSI card. With the onboard SCSI mine seems to work just fine. It's curious because now i suspect that my sCSI card (now living in my G3 B&W) is not at fault.
I can't really suggest much, other than using a known good drive, CD set etc...
