Dear List:

After several unsuccessful attempts at trying to install OS X (v 10.2) on my
Power Mac 7600, I decided to try
disabling the L2/L3 cache option and then clicked INSTALL. The installation
started, paused a few times and then
after much tense waiting the GUI finally appeared and Jaguar was on its way to
installing on my 7600.

I checked the installation this morning and I noticed a few odd things. I tried
running the Software Updater, but it
refused to install the necessary components. A message stated that there was a
problem installing the software. I
downloaded the 10.2.6 Combo Update, but when I tried to install this software
the installer unexpectedly quit. When
I tried to launch iTunes, it unexpectedly quit. On the other hand, when I
launched Internet Explorer, it successfully
launched and allowed me to browse without incident. I have also noticed on
several boots that the system hangs at
the OS X splash screen or a dark greyish background with a white message window
appears asking me to restart the
computer.

Inside my 7600 I have the following components installed:

1. SIIG Altra ATA controller card.

2. ATI VRRagePro graphics card.

3. 256MB OWC RAM.

4. Sonnet G3 500 upgrade card.

There is also my old CD-RW attached (which used to reside inside my G4 466
until I swapped it out for a Pioneer
Superdrive) to the ATA controller which I used to install OS X on the 7600
since I was unable to use the stock SCSI
CD-ROM in the 7600.

Can anyone here offer any insight about what to do at this point?

Roland :)
