Hi David,

This is WAY off topic for me to say ... but software bloat is not "features I do not personally use."

It's not because I personally don't use all the features, but because there is, IMO, way too much fluff in most OS' approach to managing data. OTOH, I wouldn't want to have to build my own UNIX flavor from scratch either.

I tend to avoid using ADOBE software for that reason. Why should I pay that kind of $$ for software then have to take a set of college courses to manipulate images and draw pictures if I don't need to?

I really like 'Intaglio' so far, and intend to purchase it as soon as I get SE paid for SC 4.5.

Maybe they should come up with a TigerLite version with a few less gargantuan sector-grabbing, memory-gobbling features most folks don't really need. Then the rest of us could have the meat-and-potatoes at home or office without having to go out and purchase new equipment every other year.

If that were the case ALL software would be bloated because all software has at least one feature that one person does not use ...

I know you know that's not what I meant. But I'm not sure you know I know you know. ;-)

And with an OS, its the under the hood changes that we all use without knowing that are really the features.

Keep in mind, it's also under the hood changes that break apps, and, in Apple's case, oftentimes their own. I'm not a minimalist, but I'm saying I think there can, and possibly should, be a better balance in how we advance and share technology, rather than foisting such rapid changes on all of us , then trying to convince everyone that this is how it should be. I, for one, don't buy into that philosophy.

That said, it looks like I'll have to at least upgrade memory again ad continuum, when I really should be saving shekels for a new, stuffed, DP G5.

I wish there was more competition and choices for quality OS'.

All the best,
Ken N.
