It's been quite a while since I looked at my Mac mail lists, but I need
a favour from everyone.
I'm looking for a certain type of software, that may or may not exist -
hopefully, someone out there might know of one, or something similar
that can be used.
I'm looking for an app that will allow me to use my Mac as a
journal/diary/etc. I know that there are many apps out there for this
purpose, but they are all geared for Blogs or similar situations, and
all that I've seen so far all use the keyboard for input. What I'd like
to be able to do is to speak into the Mac's microphone, and have the app
save the audio as a compressed audio file (like an MP3, MP4, etc), and
I'd also like the ability to have the Mac use it's speech recognition
capabilities to also save a text version of the same entry, for backup
or printing or whatever.
I know that the Mac's Classic OS (9.1, 9.2) has a pretty decent speech
recognition capability, and I believe OS X has it natively, too. I would
imagine it would be fairly simple to put something together using the
Mac OS X's native capabilities, but I do not know if anyone has yet done
so or where such an app could be obtained.
As I have VERY limited funds (evidenced by my Mac - I'm running OS X on
a heavily upgraded 7300), upgrading to a newer version of OS X other
than 10.2.8 is not possible in order to run any newer apps that require
newer libraries.
I'd do it myself, but I have no illusions of myself being a programmer
in any sense of the word. I can handle a command line very well, but the
rest of it? Forget it.
