Seriously, iTMS with v 5.0 just worked for me (to the detriment of MY
bank account...that site is like <bleeping> crack, donuts and beer
all rolled into one.)
If it's happening on both your machine AND your wife's pc, then the
problem is not the software. Try trashing the iTunes prefs.
What happens if you go to Apple's Web site, then iPod and iTunes and
click on Launch Music Store link?
