[?] I don't understand. "Aqua" is the name of the OS X GUI, on any and
all versions. It's not a version. Do you mean 10.1 or 10.0?
Its 10.1. Sorry. Re-read the CD label more carefully. It reads:
"Power Mac G4 Mac OS X Install, Mac OS 10.1, CD version 1.02,
Z691-3296-A".

That sounds like a hardware defect. You should fix this before trying
any software problems. First step would be to completely disassemble
the Mac, remove every single component, clean everything, then
carefully reassemble it, ensuiring that everything fits properly and
no components are damaged.
We can't help or work anything out on a flakey machine.
True. I have a Christmas vacaition project, then. Disassembling the
beast & cleaning out stuff in it. BTW, it does stay off now, the
second or third time i tell it to do so.
But yes, a disassemble & clean would be smart.
OK. What other devices remain? E.g. drives, external peripherals?
No other peripherals, cards or such stuff.

Second volume: 5,43 Gb

Sounds like a good plan. I'd suggest keeping it as simple as possible.
Small disk: 1 HFS+ partition, OS9.
Big disk: first 8GB, 1 HFS+ partition, OS X. Rest, one big HFS+
data/apps partition.
OK. Will re-format drives according to your suggestion & re-try.
And: 10.2 didn't work. Tried booting from it, then Xpostfacto somehow
toook over and it booted in OS9 (on its own disk). Somehow XPF
changed things, so it wouldn't boot in 10.1 anymore, so I had to
reinstall that.
My other beige, a desktop version, runs 10.3 w/XPF. But it was trying
to make it work.
But Bruce says 10.2 is supported? Well, ok. First hardware-cleaning,
then software.
:o)
