Grabauski.com is pleased to announce that the Second Electronic Edition of the
Henkel translation of The Book of Concord is now available! (We would be very
pleased if you would forward this announcement to your congregational email
lists and other mailing lists, websites, blogs, and the like, as well.)

WHY THE HENKEL? Back when our first electronic edition of the 2nd Edition
Henkel "Christian Book of Concord" was released, Mr. Scott Diekmann had the
following to say about it on his blog:

"When you grab your careworn copy of the Book of Concord off the shelf, it’s
probably a translation of the Latin version of the Book of Concord published in
1584. There is also a German version of the Book of Concord, which was
published in 1580. It’s very helpful to have access to a translation of the
German version as well as its Latin counterpart for study purposes.
Unfortunately, that hasn’t been easy, since the only complete English
translation of the German version was published by Solomon D. Henkel & Brs. in
1851 and 1854. Copies of this book are hard to come by, with the only other
option being an online copy – but that hurdle has been eliminated.

"There is now an electronic version of the 2nd Edition Henkel Book of Concord,
available at grabauski.com. This downloadable version is donationware, meaning
you make a small donation, and receive download access and a license to use the
software. This is not a commercial production – it was produced by a group of
Lutheran volunteers and proceeds go to a fund for the training of faithful
Lutheran pastors in Sri Lanka. The Electronic Edition will soon be followed by
a new Print Edition as well. I hope you’ll avail yourself of this valuable
resource. Go to grabauski.com for details."

Yes, the hurdle has been eliminated--no longer does one have to spend hundreds
of dollars for a Henkel Book of Concord, nor browse through (often unclear)
image files, nor have a constant internet connection. With the Electronic
Henkel, you can pop out your laptop in whatever rest area or non-WIFIed diner
you happen to visit (or on an airplane), and do a quick search of the Book of
Concord.

We are in NOW IN THE SECOND EDITION of the Henkel Electronic Book of Concord,
which means that a large number of errors have now been corrected. We hope that
you will download this edition and work your way through it in your devotions,
in classes, and so on, both for your own benefit and for the further perfection
of the text. While you do that, we will be working on the *third* edition,
which will be a major step: we will now begin to divide the text for the print
edition from that of the electronic edition so that we may introduce new
features in the electronic edition, such as internal and external links to
enrich your use of the book. That is to say: we wish to modernize a few things
(like punctuation and citations) so that extra tools will be accessible, while
leaving the translation as it is...while at the same time, providing
Repristination Press with a clean set of texts from which to offer a facsimile
edition and any other edition thought useful. We are also looking into coding
the book for Logos, Sword, and some iPhone and Palm readers.

OF COURSE, there is no reason to wait for the third edition, as if you download
the second edition now, you will get an upgrade to the next edition for free,
anyway.

IN FACT, the Henkel Electronic edition doesn't COST, anyway, but SAVES:
whatever you *donate* in acquiring it is tax deductible, as that donation goes
to a church (Holy Trinity, Harrison, AR) to be used for its Sri Lanka Fund, a
fund that supports the education of faithful Lutheran pastors in Sri Lanka (and
in 2010, possibly India, as well). And, yes, by 'donation', we *mean* donation:
donors to the Sri Lanka Fund in connection with the first electronic edition
made donations between one penny and a couple hundred dollars. (In fact, I
recall that a couple of people said they were completely unable to donate, so
we sent them a copy anyway.) We have a suggested donation of $15.80 for this
second edition (and $18.54 will be the suggestion for the third edition;
donation suggestions, after all, ought to be symbolic!), but, again, less is
acceptable and more is always welcome; remember, no one's 'getting paid' for
this, the money goes for the training of pastors in South Asia.
