I received a notice from Apple's original 'software evangelist', Guy Kawasaki,
on Wednesday offering a free PDF download of his 1987 book, "The Macintosh Way"
for free. Really, whether you like Macs or not, the fact that you're reading
this message means that you have, in some way, profited from Guy Kawasaki's
kindness toward the Christian use of the internet: back in the mid-90s, when
the original lists run through our server were powered by auto-forwarding
through Claris e...@iler, it was Guy who gave me every conceivable discount to
bring the $300+ LetterRip server down to the $50 that I could (almost) afford.
Since that time, Guy has made his mark as an angel capitalist and promoter of
common sense business-building (read: "customer service as the heart and core
of every endeavor").

For those of you who were, like me, a hard core EvangeLISTa (taking over the
computer department at, e.g., Sears, on a Saturday and demonstrating Macs to
the point where we were outselling the paid staff who were demonstrating much
less expensive Windows 3.1 machines), having a searchable copy of this book
will be a very welcome thing...almost as good as having a signed copy on your
shelf next to your (unsigned...nutz!) copy of "The Art of War."

A long time ago (1987 exactly), I published my first book, The Macintosh Way. I
wrote it because I was bursting with idealistic and pure notions about how a
company can change the world, and I wanted to spread the gospel. Here’s what a
reader said about it:

It is hard to believe this book is now over 20 years old. Guy Kawasaki does a
marvelous job of conveying key traits of effective “Macintosh Way” companies
and managers. The key, really, is to do the right thing, the right way. Seems
common sense enough, but even 20 years later, it appears as elusive as ever.
(Edward J. Barton)

I recently re-acquired the rights for this book, and I’m making it freely
available from the fan page of my upcoming book, Enchantment: The Art of
Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions. To download The Macintosh Way:

1. Go to the fan page.
2. “Like” the page.
3. Click on The Macintosh Way book cover to download the PDF.

All the best for a great 2011.
