Whether the topic is space exploration, political philosophy or process, guns
and ammo, or, obviously, historical and dogmatic theology and the interactions
between theology and 'secular culture' in any given age, a conversation with
ELDoNA Bishop James Heiser is always a fascinating and enriching experience.
When you are able to have such conversations over a period of several days
within a group of other informed and interested laity and pastors, it can be
even more rewarding. Thus, we are pleased to invite *everyone* to join us June
25–28 for Bishop Heiser's discussion of "What History Is."
Through four days in the heart of the Ozark hill country (two half-days and two
full days), Bp. Heiser will present on the interplay between (so-called)
secular history, Christian history, and mythological history, bringing
insights, especially, from his intense study of gnostic movements throughout
history and the influence that these had on key figures in Renaissance and
Reformation history, as well as in the path that has led us to the present
state of our nation and world. As time allows during the day, there will be the
opportunity for questions and comments; even more, as is the custom in our
classes, there will be time together at meals and before and after dinner in
the biergarten at the famous Gaunce Orthodox Lutheran Education Center (where
the likes of Kurt Marquart, Wallace Schulz, Daniel Preus, and John Fehrmann
have given testimony to the great cooking and hospitality).
Cost for this summer intensive is $150 per person or $200 per couple. As the
subject matter, while beneficial for pastors, would also be well-suited for
high school and college students (and for adults in general), so if a family
would like to attend as a family, we will work out a cost that is equitable
(allows you to attend and allows us to pay the bills). SOME free housing will
be available on-site or near the site of the class (Everton, Arkansas, just
south of Harrison, Arkansas, just south of Branson, Missouri), but it will be
first come, first served.
For questions or to register for this class, simply respond to this email. We
would like the class roster fully established as quickly as possible, so please
respond ASAP.
Please feel free to pass this invitation along to all who might be interested.
