If anyone is considering this position, I've done work for Jody Rookstool before, and would be willing to answer any questions you might have about him. (If you do talk to him, please remind him that he still owes Code Greene about $2100, plus service charges, from last August.)
That doesn't sound like a resounding recommendation. I can now see 2 distinct signs of trouble. Being cheap, and then not paying your invoices, is not a way to gain confidence with developers.
