>For those who would like to come but find distance to be a barrier, I am trying to setup something so that you will be able to hear it. More info if it becomes available.
K, here is where we are on this. We officially hit uphpu-meeting BETA this morn. I have a server with both cgi:irc (web based IRC client) and icecast (audio streaming). If all goes well, we will stream Sheri's lecture over icecast starting tonight and you can hear it from your home in Ogden, Provo, Houston -- wherever. Additionally, for those of you listening from remote, you can ask questions via the IRC channel where Sheri will be able to read them and answer (provided she likes your question.) -- hence the IRC web portal. (for those unfamiliar with cgi:irc it is a web interface where all you do is show up on the web page and the server does the rest, it connects you into the uphpu IRC channel and you'll be able to talk and ask questions there. Please keep in mind, this is a beta setup. Hasn't been stress tested, just quickly ramped up to try to enable those from a distance to attend and be part of the meetings. If it fails, it fails. (though I'm thinking right now we've got 85% chance of success tonight) The audio will be recorded and we will be looking at ways to disseminate that. That said, here is what you need to know: Icecast is going to be streaming ogg (ray hunter's favorite codec). Practically every version of any media player should play this. Sadly, and not by intention, windows media player might have a problem with ogg, but winamp catches it just fine. For this month, please look at http://65.121.75.205/ (right now it just has a place holder, but by tonight 6:30p, it will have links to cgi:irc and icecast) for more information. This server will only be up today, it'll go back down until next meet. I'm going to be looking for a more permanent home. mj/v _______________________________________________ UPHPU mailing list [email protected] http://uphpu.org/mailman/listinfo/uphpu IRC: #uphpu on irc.freenode.net
