Which method are you using to create the excerpt? That is, are you
entering something in the optional excerpt field in the post page or
relying on the automatic 55 words?
the_excerpt will automatically strip html codes if you are using the
latter but it will not do so if you are using the former.
If you are still having problems, post the full code for The Loop in
your page.
