I did a bunch of things, so I can't really pin it down to one particular
thing.  I guess the biggest help was switching from php 4.3.9 running as
cgi to php 5.2.5 as an apache module.  I'm sure tuning the database,
enabling mod_expires and mod_deflate, and installing eAccelerate helped
as well.  At any rate, they certainly didn't hurt.  I'm not worried
about resources on the server as the load is only around 5% on the box,
so hitting the CPU to compress stuff and a little bit on the memory
(though it could use some more) isn't really a problem.
