How bad, and why?
Is this an acceptable solution for a development machine where
convenience is more important than performance? Is there a better way to
do this?
I would never use a pipe for log information. if you are not reading then you
have no idea what is being logged...you cannot access the log information over a
period of time.
performance wise you might not see any on a dev machine...however, perhaps you
don't care about that on that machine.
