I'm guessing you want to do something with the data once you've
extracted it from the database?

Maybe something like split would help?  You can run split multiple
times, but I'm not sure you have to:

<?php

split_data = split("|", $your_sql_data);

?>

Should give you a list of items to work with.  Does this get you started?
