Greets all, For the last few years, I've been lucky to be the president of Utah PHP Users Group. It's been a great run and I've come away having learned a lot about PHP and more importantly the community.
Some changes for the better are coming to UPHPU. Effective immediately, I'm stepping down as UPHPU president and I'm handing the responsibility to Mac Newbold. Many of you know Mac, he's a GREAT advocate for PHP and an excellent member of the OSS community (he's even on the UTOS board!). I will assist him in this transition period until he gets up to speed so that the impact on the community will be minimal. July's meeting will be at Code Greene. Some final thoughts on what it means to be a part of an OSS community: I moved to Utah several years ago, a web developer from Houston. The OSS community welcomed me with open arms and I found a wealth of information on best practices, security, etc on both the website and the IRC channel. Shifting into the role of president, I was able to start paying back to the community by helping it to grow. This is a great community that you are a part of! There are people on the mailing list, on the IRC that are at the top of their game. Professionals in their prime. Become involved in the community. Take advantage of it. We've built it for you. I think all that anybody asks before you ask your question, is that you at least google it and attempt it on your own. We'll help you learn the rest and coach you along the way. I've sat in many IRC chans and believe me, few there are that are friendlier than #uphpu on freenode. As I say, it has been my pleasure to serve you guys. From here, I'm doubling my focus on Utah Open Source and the conference ( http://2010.utosc.com ) Some programs like the infamous UPHPU After hours party are still in transition and we'll let you know when these programs are back up and running. mj/v _______________________________________________ UPHPU mailing list [email protected] http://uphpu.org/mailman/listinfo/uphpu IRC: #uphpu on irc.freenode.net
